The “Centre for Promotion of Polish Legal Research” has been launched.

The project is financed by the “Dialog” programme of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

On the 7th of March, the Centre for Promotion of Legal Research began its operations. The Centre’s mission is to promote Polish achievements in the area of legal sciences abroad, as well as support Polish researchers (for example in preparing foreign-language publications) and in active participation in prestigious international conferences.

The Centre for Promotion of Polish Legal Research

established by the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw, will consist of organisational units in Warsaw and Kyiv. The latter will function as an international gateway, a concept that has been successfully used within leading Anglo-Saxon universities.

One of the main problems of Polish science, especially in the field of legal research, is its local character. It manifests in the lack of sufficiently developed international cooperation, and consequently in limited knowledge about the academic achievements of foreign centres, and even less knowledge on the part of foreign researchers about the achievements of Polish academics.

This is why an important part of the project is the creation of a permanent representative office in Kyiv. It will carry out a number of precisely defined tasks related to the promotion of Polish legal research in Eastern Europe.

The most important tasks of the Representation are:

  • dissemination of knowledge about legal institutions in the Republic of Poland,
  • education in the field of experience acquired during the so-called system transformation,
  • illumination the process of adjusting internal regulations to the standards required in the European Union,
  • promoting the intensification of Polish-Ukrainian scientific cooperation,
  • supporting joint research initiatives,
  • acting as intermediary in establishing relations between representatives of the national scientific community with Ukrainian NGOs and entrepreneurs.

The representation established in Kyiv

will be supported by a team of Ukrainian- and Russian-speaking staff

The representation established in Kyiv will be supported by a team of Ukrainian- and Russian-speaking staff who are well-versed in the realities of the local higher education system and who have the necessary contacts and experience in social work.

Their main task will be the organisation, coordination, promotion and support of all types of cooperation of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw – in various aspects and at all levels – with representatives of Ukrainian academic staff, PhD candidates, students, graduates, NGOs and the local business community.

The area of operations will also include initiating all other forms of cooperation between Polish legal research and partners representing the Ukrainian civil society.
